The secret to Mosinee’s strong, steady growth and financial success can be directly linked to the abundance of flourishing business in the community. Whether traveling through the beautiful historic downtown or along outlying areas, you’ll see the signs of progressive commerce and new commercial developments in Mosinee.

Relying on a base of diversified companies, professional services, retail and light industry, Mosinee’s economy continues to expand as the Chamber of Commerce works hand-in-hand with its business and community leaders. The Chamber of Commerce and the City of Mosinee are cooperatively working together to “secure Mosinee’s future by establishing and maintaining a healthy business environment that allows the residents of the Mosinee area to enjoy a high quality of life in a progressive and enriching community-oriented atmosphere.”

The Chamber of Commerce and the City have formed the Mosinee Area Economic Development Committee which has an identified mission of “encouraging, supporting and facilitating economic development initiatives by providing leadership and direction” to the community. The Mosinee Area Economic Development Committee’s leadership and direction has led to the formulation of the Mosinee Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (MCEDS) that is the result of a local planning process designed to guide the economic growth of the Mosinee area. The MCEDS provides a mechanism for effectively coordinating the efforts of individuals, organizations, local governments and private industry that are strongly committed to ensuring the proactive development of the Mosinee area. Mosinee strives to minimize barriers to development while ensuring that development occurs in an environmentally sensitive manner.

The key to the success of the Mosinee business economy is our highly educated, well-trained and hard-working labor force that is available in the surrounding Mosinee area that includes Wausau, Stevens Point and Marshfield. In addition, our employers also utilize the numerous innovative employee training programs that are locally offered by the Northcentral Technical College, the University of Wisconsin at Marathon County and the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

Companies that are interested in locating to the Mosinee area are encouraged to take advantage of the excellent land development opportunities available within the City of Mosinee’s beautiful Central Wisconsin Business Park (CWBP). Ideally located adjacent to Interstate 39/U.S. Highway 51 and the Central Wisconsin Regional Airport (CWA), the Central Wisconsin Business Park offers the premier location for immediate access to ground and air transportation, within the Central Wisconsin region. State of the art utility and telecommunication services are available within the CWBP and national ground/air shipping companies are also located within the CWBP to serve the park tenants. There are currently 1,200 people employed at the globally-recognized companies which are located within the business park which is also the home of the beautiful 18-hole Indianhead Golf Course.

While promoting business development in its Business Park and along its periphery, Mosinee is also progressively and aggressively promoting the redevelopment of the central business district in Historic Downtown Mosinee. A 1998 downtown improvement plan which emphasized the historical importance of the downtown area has created a new City Square Park, bricked sidewalks, decorative lighting, building facade renovations and much more. The vibrant new face of the downtown area reflects the City’s historic charm and enhances the City’s ability to become a regional leisure destination. Encouraged by the success of the original downtown improvement plan, the City is currently undertaking additional redevelopment improvements in the historic downtown area that will provide further exciting commercial business opportunities.

Mosinee encourages and supports unique and well planned commercial redevelopment that will enhance the local economy and our fantastic quality of life. The City of Mosinee offers a variety of innovative financial incentives (including Tax Increment Financing) for businesses and industries that would like to locate in our great community.

With the establishment of four Tax Increment Districts (TIDs) encompassing some 600 acres of opportunity land, the Village of Kronenwetter is providing prime location for quality businesses such as G3 Industries’ new plant employing 150 and Woods Equipment Company that employs 150 people at its new 106,000 square-foot plant. There will be additional announcements of newly located businesses to Kronenwetter in 2009 as commercial and light industrial activity increases. The year 2009 will see literally hundreds of acres of infrastructure completion in Kronenwetter, setting the stage for strong business growth locating on prime Kronenwetter commercial sites with interstate highway visibility, convenient multi-modal transportation and market access. Opportunities abound.

From the continued redevelopment of the historic downtown, the excellent transportation access available at the Central Wisconsin Regional Airport and the business location opportunities available at the Central Wisconsin Business Park, Mosinee remains committed to the motto “Together We Grow”.
