Students who pursue higher educational goals have a wide variety of excellent options available in and around Prairie du Chien. Upper Iowa University, the largest private independent college in the State of Iowa, offers evening degree programs in Prairie du Chien with classes held at the Prairie du Chien High School and through an online educational program.
Other universities are available through commutes of one hour or more. The University of Wisconsin system has campuses in Platteville and La Crosse, as well as a two-year campus in Richland Center. Private colleges/universities within a reasonable drive include: Luther College in Decorah, Iowa; Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin; Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa; as well as Loras College, Clarke College and the University of Dubuque all in Dubuque, Iowa. Students able to venture further from Prairie du Chien may take advantage of the programs offered by the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Iowa.
Students may look for two-year technical training at three nearby technical colleges: Southwest Wisconsin Technical College in Fennimore, Wisconsin; Western Wisconsin Technical College in La Crosse, Wisconsin; and Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, Iowa. They strive to offer the best in modern technical and vocational training.
