Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important to community members and, fortunately, Prairie du Chien residents have access to a wide variety of healthcare services including dental clinics, pharmacies, chiropractic clinics, optometry clinics, medical clinics and rehabilitation and wellness centers in the area. Plus, the city boasts an outstanding hospital in town, as well as a system of local clinics.

Established in 1959, Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital is a comprehensive community-based medical facility, offering an extensive list of health services and programs. The complete continuum of care includes surgery, state-of-the-art labor and delivery services, a highly specialized Intensive Coronary Care Unit, 24-hour emergency care, home health and hospice care, urgent care services and diagnostic and support services, radiology with CT Scan, MRI and ultrasound—to name a few. Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital also offers the family Resource Center and an active Community Education Department, which coordinates various educational programs designed to promote healthy living.

Family Medicine, Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery and Behavioral Health are provided by local clinics. Franciscan Skemp Mayo Health Systems and Gunderson Lutheran System both have regional clinics in Prairie du Chien. Approximately 18 sub specialists visit the community clinics and Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital on a regular basis.

The Gundersen Lutheran health system manages the Prairie du Chien Clinic, a medical resource supplying comprehensive care to residents in this region. In addition to the clinic’s family practice physicians, internal medicine physicians, surgeons and specialists, Gundersen Lutheran provides on-site Early Morning Walk-in Care and behavioral health services, along with a comprehensive medical eye clinic in the community.

Franciscan Skemp Mayo Health System also operates a clinic in the community. The Prairie du Chien Clinic is equipped with family care physicians, on-site behavioral health services and specialty physicians and medical professionals traveling from the La Crosse campus. Among the services provided by these specialists are allergy, cardiology and echocardiography, diabetes, ear/nose/throat and audiology, occupational health and urology.
