Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital is a rural, state-of-the-art medical facility providing a diversified, comprehensive continuum of care and services. Acute care services range from obstetrics/newborn in the New Beginnings unit, where conventional and LDR family concept of delivery are practiced, to a Medicare certified hospice program. Major surgical patients, CVA’s and hemodynamic monitoring cares are provided for in the hospital’s ICCU that is equipped with the latest high tech arrhythmia detection monitoring. Inpatient and same day surgery are performed in the hospital’s state-of-the-art surgical suite. Inpatient services also include skilled, intermediate, and respite care. Diagnostic and support services include a fully automated laboratory and blood bank, in-house CT, echocardiograms, EEG, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, MRI, and dedicated mammography. The 24-hour emergency department also offers urgent care. Outpatient; in-home oxygen; massage, physical, speech, occupational, and vestibular therapy; cardiac rehab; stress testing; respiratory therapy; oncology; counseling; audiology; HME; and home health care are provided to the community. The continuum of care reaches to the community with lifeline emergency response system; wellness, nutrition, and health education; meals on wheels; Family Resource Center; parish nursing; senior assisted living; and child care. Professional and support staff number 280 with 58 active, consulting, and emergency service Medical Staff.
Gundersen Lutheran - Prairie du Chien Clinic is located at 610 East Taylor Street. It provides the right care for the entire family. A team of seven family practice physicians, one internal medicine physician, one physician assistant, two general surgeons, three nurse practitioners and many visiting specialists from La Crosse are able to care for all health needs from earaches to broken bones to chronic medical conditions. The new health resource library provides health information for patients and the community. Gundersen Lutheran also has a comprehensive medical eye clinic with three optometrists in Prairie du Chien and Behavioral Health services on site.
Franciscan Skemp Healthcare Prairie du Chien Clinic, part of Mayo Health System, is located at 800 East Blackhawk Avenue. It is served by four family medicine physicians and offers same day appointments every day with evening appointments Mondays and Wednesdays.
Prairie Medicine, LTD is located at 421 South Beaumont Road in Prairie du Chien. Staff of the clinic includes a general surgeon and a nurse practitioner.
Community Health Services Corporation provides two locally owned senior facilities in Crawford County: Prairie Maison Nursing Facility in Prairie du Chien and Sannes Skogdalen Heim Nursing Facility in Soldiers Grove. These facilities provide nursing home care and alternative living for senior residents.
Prairie Maison’s dedicated staff provides an atmosphere conducive to physical and mental well being. The facility offers 95 beds with 24-hour nursing care with skilled and intermediate levels. It is Medicare certified. Prairie Maison is located at 1505 East Brunson Street. Brunson Terrace, an assisted living facility with 21 beds at the same location, provides a level of care for seniors who prefer assistance with daily cares.
Sannes Skogdalen Heim Nursing Facility, a 66-bed facility, offers 24-hour nursing care by trained licensed staff in a home-like environment. Spacious areas provide for family visits and socializing. The facility is Medicare certified.
Community Health Services Corporation also owns LaBatisse on Dousman Senior Apartments in Prairie du Chien. The apartments are equipped with a safety/call system to Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital for emergencies.
The City of Prairie du Chien has five dental clinics, four pharmacies, four chiropractic clinics, two optometrist clinics, and rehabilitation and wellness centers. The city is served by two rescue squads.
