As the current president of the South Suburban Chamber, I am excited to share with you some of the exciting events of the past year and the Chamber’s plans for the future.
We were fortunate to have celebrated our 10th anniversary as a regional Chamber in 2011. In 2001, the Oak Creek Chamber and the Franklin Chamber began the new century by merging the two Chambers and forming what was then called the Southeastern Chamber United in Business. Since 2007, we are now called the South Suburban Chamber of Commerce.
Both the Oak Creek Chamber and the Franklin Chamber had rich histories that together created a vibrant Chamber and business community in two of the fastest-growing cities in Wisconsin. Of those businesses who formed this new Chamber, 107 of those member companies that were members of the Chamber in 2001 continue as members today.

At the Chamber’s Anniversary Celebration in September, the mayors of Franklin and Oak Creek congratulated the Chamber and said in their proclamations, “We hereby commend the South Suburban Chamber of Commerce for their 10 years of service to our communities and thank them for their time, service and dedication to the businesses and citizens of Oak Creek, Franklin and the surrounding areas.”
In the past year, the Chamber also received a special membership achievement award from the American Council of Chamber Executives for being one of the top 10 Chambers in the country of our size for our membership retention, new member dollars and the number of new members. The entire membership and the Chamber staff should be congratulated for their efforts that resulted in this national award.

Our future focus for the Chamber is growth. We have seen that growth in the number of renewing members, new members and in the greater number of Chamber offerings, including an expansion of the legislative function of the Chamber, as well as the first steps towards a Young Professionals Group.
Our growth is not only in our ever-expanding membership, but also in the growing list of benefits that you can take advantage of as a current member.
In addition to our networking breakfasts, ABLE lunches with six other Chambers, the annual awards dinner and the summer golf outing, we have added several business after hours events and cooperated with area schools on job fairs and educational offerings. We are also growing the number of ribbon cuttings, legislative meetings and we have inaugurated a Luncheon Lecture series with notable local businesspersons.
We celebrate the businesses that continue to enrich our community. I look forward to growing with all of you and continuing the growth and impact of the South Suburban Chamber.
