

Mequon and Thiensville are situated at the northern fringe of the Milwaukee Metropolitan area, away from congestion but part of the pace of the city. Tiny Thiensville is actually an island near the center of Mequon’s 47 square miles. Mequon is the fourth-largest city in the state in land area.
Interstate 43 connects the two communities with downtown Milwaukee, about 15 minutes to the south. It extends from north to south only a couple miles from the Lake Michigan shoreline that forms Mequon’s eastern boundary.
State highways 181, 57 and 167 are principal routes through Mequon as well, tying it with neighbors to the north, west and south. U.S. Highway 41-45, another north-south freeway, is only two miles to the southwest of Mequon. A system of county highways, called “County Trunks,” augments these routes.
For air travelers, Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport is about 30 minutes away. Lawrence J. Timmerman Field, 14 miles southwest of Mequon, provides services and facilities for private and corporate-owned aircraft.
Water transportation services are conveniently located just 20 miles south of Mequon at the busy Port of Milwaukee. Ozaukee County Transit offers bus service to Milwaukee County and back. The transit system offers express bus service for commuters, with conveniently located park-and-ride lots.
Taxi service is available to all county residents through the County Shared Ride Taxi program. The Ozaukee County Office of Aging Services offers specialized transportation services for seniors and the disabled.
