The newest addition to Mequon’s senior living options is the Sarah Chudnow Campus, the sister campus of the Jewish Home and Care Center—a facility that has been a part of the community for more than 100 years. The campus opened its doors in Mequon on February 1, 2005, in order to serve Milwaukee’s Northshore and Ozaukee County populations. “A lot of people in the Northshore and Mequon areas did not want to move to the urban setting which our east side location offers,” explained Jeri Stroiman, Marketing Manager at the Sarah Chudnow Campus, when asked why the Jewish Home and Care Center chose Mequon as the place for its new senior living campus. “The ambience in Mequon is more suitable to a country setting, similar to the Northshore and Ozaukee areas.”
The Sarah Chudnow Campus is represented by an upscale, boutique-style setting, encompassed by 17 acres of scenic woods and wetlands. It features elegant living quarters and a centralized three-story atrium that offers a charming town-square essence. This expansive area includes a gift shop, a charming café with bistro tables, M & I Bank, a beauty salon, and a barbershop. In addition, the second floor houses an enviable art gallery showcasing the residents’ artwork.
The campus offers a full continuum of care, serving those in need of independent living, assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation and hospice. “The campus allows individuals to ‘age in place,’ as their needs change,” says Stroiman. “We foster independence, but are available as needed.”
A total of 41 luxurious one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are available for both independent- and assisted-living residents. “When one walks in the apartments’ entrance, they are greeted by a very warm, open, inviting atmosphere filled with cultural events,” says Stroiman.
The apartments are furnished with an assortment of modern amenities, including a full kitchen with appliances, a washer and dryer, and an advanced wireless emergency response system. Supplementing the in-home resources are a range of excellent services, including 24-hour security, laundry, individual transportation, personal support and gracious dining services, plus a list of daily social activities and special events.
Assisted-living residents can choose to stay in an apartment unit with the incorporation of supportive services such as assistance with acts of daily living, bathing, medication administration, etc., or they can opt to reside within the campus’ third-floor Assisted Living Wing, which offers the amenities above accompanied with extra attention. The latter option offers studio and one-bedroom apartment selections with three meals a day, nursing services and housekeeping.
Special care has been designated for the memory impaired on the Sarah Chudnow Campus. A group-living design has been implemented in this unit, which incorporates individual living spaces, a communal kitchen, dining and leisure arts areas for a total of nine residents.
High-quality rehabilitative therapy services are readily available on the campus on both an inpatient or outpatient basis. The Rehabilitation Unit is equipped with knowledgeable Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech-Language Pathologists, all of whom are dedicated to ensuring senior residents return to their maximum abilities after experiencing a malady or surgical procedure. The unit has the capability to accommodate 20 residents within 12 individual and four double rooms, and also supplies a dining area, spacious lounge, spa and therapeutic activity area.
For those residents coping with terminal illnesses, the Sarah Chudnow Campus’ Hospice Unit provides fine end-of-life care for individuals, caretakers and families with a holistic care approach. When medical treatments are no longer necessitated, the staff at the Sarah Chudnow Campus will make sure residents are relieved of pain; have reduced anxiety; and receive the medical, spiritual and emotional comfort needed. Each private room opens to a tranquil, enclosed courtyard and is furnished with lounge and kitchen areas. The hospice team is trained to be especially sensitive to Jewish issues, such as religious traditions.
The Sarah Chudnow Campus is located at 10995 N. Market Street in Mequon. The facility can be reached by calling (262) 478-1500 or by visiting www.jewishseniorliving.org.
