Mequon-Thiensville is the ideal base camp for visitors to southeastern Wisconsin. The area has several motels and numerous appetite-pleasing restaurants. Moreover, the two communities are at the center of a lot of Wisconsin’s German history, focused in such places as neighboring Germantown and Cedarburg.

Mequon and Thiensville offer an abundance of shopping opportunities with numerous specialty shops, major chains and boutiques.

Visitors to Mequon can relax away from Milwaukee’s congestion and still enjoy the attractions of the big city. The Milwaukee Public Museum awes its visitors with its Humphrey IMAX Dome Theater and hundreds of dioramas, displays, and exhibits on world culture and history.

The Mitchell Park Conservatory’s three identical glass domes feature colorful floral gardens and displays that are continually changed. The Milwaukee County Zoo, with its natural habitats, is ranked among the world’s finest zoological parks. The 184-acre zoo has more than 6,000 animals, many on the endangered species list.

Milwaukee’s Summerfest, held at the lakefront, features 14 different stages and presents over 300 bands and 1,600 performers. Also popular are the city’s many ethnic festivals that celebrate Old World traditions and customs with tasty ethnic dishes, dancing, crafts, and music.

The Milwaukee Art Center, with its new addition by renowned architect Calatrava, houses an appealing collection of contemporary and primitive art.
