
Mequon-Thiensville families live close to nature. Even in its most developed areas, Mequon has a rural character, thanks to a land use plan that demands lots of at least an acre in size.
Mequon features numerous parks and nature preserves. The newest, the Mequon Nature Preserve boasts 408 acres and houses the PieperPower Education Center. The Education Center will house numerous educational programs and activities. Rotary Park, in the northern part of the community, is the largest of the city’s active parks, with 75 acres. The park features walking paths, playground, fishing ponds, soccer fields, baseball diamonds, picnic shelters with restrooms, and a large gazebo. Community Park, setting for the Mequon City Hall and the Frank L. Weyenberg Library of Mequon-Thiensville, covers 16 acres and has a lighted baseball field, swimming pool, playground, a fitness course, a tot lot, and picnic areas.
River Barn Park, on the city’s south side, is home to the Mequon/Thiensville Youth Football Program, soccer fields, softball diamonds and a pavilion.
The Ozaukee Interurban Trail, a 30-mile recreational trail that extends the entire length of Ozaukee County, is a popular biking, birding, and hiking trail.
The Thiensville Village Park, located along the Milwaukee River, features baseball diamonds, tennis courts, playground and picnic areas, and public boat launch. Nearby, the Rotary Riverwalk is being developed along the Milwaukee River in the Town Center by the local Rotary clubs, Eventually, this tranquil walkway will extend along the banks of the Milwaukee River from Thiensville Park south to Mequon Road in Mequon.
Several of the city’s parks are passive, conservancy parks, some offering hiking and biking trails. Ozaukee County’s large Virmond Park adjoins Lake Michigan in the southeast corner of Mequon.
Mee-Kwon Park, a second county park, is located in the northern area of Mequon and features a public golf course. Local Country Clubs offer additional golf opportunities as well as The Bog, an Arnold Palmer signature 18 hole par, 72 championship golf course, is located just north of Mequon in Saukville.
Organized sports and recreation programs are planned and conducted by the Mequon-Thiensville School District, using school facilities. There are programs for all ages, from junior cheerleading to dance and cooking classes, gymnastics, swimming classes, and coed track and field. Thiensville Mequon Youth Baseball Association (TMYBA) organizes a youth baseball and softball program. The Mequon soccer club coordinates soccer programs from Pee Wee’s to U-19.
The Logemann Community Center is a recreation facility available to all residents of Mequon-Thiensville. Managed by a non-profit organization, the center provides recreation and activities for people of all ages from tots to senior citizens. It is also an Ozaukee County meal site and is available to community businesses, civic groups, and individuals for private parties and other events.
A variety of private recreation facilities are available in the Mequon area, including a tennis club. Ozaukee Ice Center is located in northern Mequon and features public skating, hockey leagues and rink ice for figure skaters.
