One of four campuses of the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), Wisconsin’s largest technical college, is situated on Highland Road, directly north of Thiensville in Mequon’s largely rural northern area. More than 63,000 students are enrolled at the college’s four campuses. A two-year college, MATC offers associate degrees in liberal arts, applied science, and applied arts. It also awards technical diplomas and certificates. MATC also operates an adult high school for those who want to upgrade their skills and do not have a high school diploma. In addition, the college offers a variety of continuing education credit and personal enrichment programs.

In total, MATC offers nearly 100 academic and career majors. Each year, the college conducts more than 4,000 classes throughout the area, at 12 evening centers, five adult day centers, and on television via College of the Air.

To the east of MATC’s campus is the 155-acre campus of Concordia University Wisconsin on the shore of Lake Michigan. The University, founded in 1881, encompasses the School of Adult and Continuing Education, the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Legal Studies, the School of Education and the School of Human Services.

Concordia provides a variety of educational opportunities for students who are preparing for vocations in the ministry of the church and for various professional and business careers in the community. The program of studies emphasizes a liberal arts curriculum and course offerings providing educational and global experiences that cultivate personal and vocational skills. The program is governed by sound educational standards; and its mission is to “develop students in mind, body, and spirit for service to Christ in the Church and the world.”  Concordia’s top priority is a faculty and staff committed to taking the time to make each student grow - both academically and as a person.

A 13:1 student to faculty ratio ensures students will receive the personal touch expected in a quality learning environment.

Affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, Concordia awards associate of arts, bachelor of arts, bachelor of science, master’s degrees, and the doctor of physical therapy degree. More than 5,500 students are enrolled on the main campus, its nine off-campus adult education sites, and its E-Learning initiatives, making Concordia University Wisconsin the largest Lutheran university of any denomination in the United States.

With an appeal of “Higher Learning, Greater Rewards,” Concordia University Wisconsin offers 50 undergraduate majors and graduate degrees in areas such as business administration, education, nursing, physical and occupational therapy, music, and student personnel administration.

Since 1929, the Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary has been located on an 80-acre campus in Mequon. The seminary prepares students for ministries in the Lutheran Church.

Other institutions of higher education in the Milwaukee metropolitan area include Marquette University, the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, the Medical College of Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, the Milwaukee School of Engineering, Mount Mary College, Cardinal Stritch University, and Marian College.
