Immigrants from Germany and Ireland were among the early settlers of the Mequon area. They brought with them strong Lutheran and Catholic faiths that served them well as they faced the hardships that accompanied life in a new land.
As soon as their numbers were sufficient, the newcomers formed congregations and built churches as places of worship and fellowship. For these pioneers, regular Sunday gatherings were the chief source of news of the community and the world.
Today, the congregations of more than 20 churches and synagogues gather each week for the same faith and fellowship that meant so much to their pioneer predecessors. The 20-plus houses of worship represent most major denominations. Several support elementary schools or preschools.
