Mequon-Thiensville families can take comfort in knowing that there is a full-service regional hospital close at hand. Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee is conveniently located on North Port Washington Road in Mequon.
Built in 1994 – and expanded in 2001 and again in 2007 – the hospital’s architecture is well-suited to the community, resembling a huge country villa featuring sloping rooflines and reflecting ponds in front. With 182 beds and nearly 800 physicians on staff, the 628,000-square-foot, energy-efficient hospital is a state-of-the-art facility well-equipped to serve the future needs of Ozaukee County residents and surrounding communities for years to come.
All patient rooms are private, and within the new tower, the space is larger than the typical patient room. The rooms all look onto the natural wetlands surrounding the hospital to ensure a tranquil healing environment for patients. The rooms on the first floor are acuity-adaptable, whereby the technology can be changed to enable the patient to remain in the same room from post-operative care to discharge.
Among the hospital’s services are cardiovascular surgery, an accredited chest pain center, radiation oncology, orthopaedics, an accredited stroke center, neurology, surgical services, rehabilitation, medical imaging, family medical clinics, behavioral medicine, testing and treatment services, pulmonary medicine, a sleep center, a wound healing center, occupational health and women’s health. The hospital’s 24-hour emergency department is staffed by physicians and nurses trained in emergency medicine. The average wait time to see a physician in the ER is 14 minutes or less.
Additional services are available through Columbia St. Mary’s brand new hospital in Milwaukee overlooking Lake Michigan (opened in October 2010), including the McKeithan Testing & Treatment Institute, Orthopaedic & Neuroscience Institute, Heart & Vascular Institute, the Regional Burn Center and the Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Institute. The system also operates the Columbia St. Mary’s Women’s Hospital in Milwaukee. Columbia St. Mary’s is affiliated with the Columbia College of Nursing and has a partnership with the Orthopaedic Hospital of Wisconsin.
The health system has as its mission to make a positive difference in the health status and lives of individuals and the community. With more than 65 community clinics, Columbia St. Mary’s Community Physicians and Madison Medical Affiliates are uniquely positioned to provide primary and specialty care services throughout southeastern Wisconsin. Services include family practice, pediatrics, OB/GYN and internal medicine, as well as specialized services such as gastroenterology, endocrinology, surgery, allergy and immunology to care for the entire family. Also included are five urgent care centers and two outpatient centers.
