The Medical College of Wisconsin is a private academic institution which enrolls more than 1,200 medical and graduate students who work to obtain MD, PhD, MS, MPH and MA degrees. The institution is a major national research center and stands as the largest in the Milwaukee Metro area and the second-largest in the state. The Medical College is a collaborator on the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center campus in Wauwatosa, with major affiliates including Froedtert Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center and BloodCenter of Wisconsin.
Marquette University (MU) is a nationally-recognized higher learning institution established in 1881. MU is a Catholic, Jesuit university providing a range of educational options, including undergraduate studies and specialized graduate and professional programs to over 11,000 students.
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is one of two public doctoral research universities in the state, offering more than 29,000 students a comprehensive liberal arts and professional education through 159 degree programs. Located on the eastside of Milwaukee, UWM is currently working to expand its graduate engineering college to Wauwatosa, taking advantage of opportunities to collaborate with researchers in the planned Wauwatosa Innovation Park.
Mount Mary College is an acclaimed, four-year, Catholic women’s institution located adjacent to Wauwatosa on the northwest side of Milwaukee. More than 1,900 women are enrolled at Mount Mary College, which offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The college is sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Wisconsin Lutheran College, based in Wauwatosa, is a small, independent, liberal arts college. Students have the choice of 29 majors, 20 minors and several pre-professional programs at Wisconsin Lutheran College—an institution that continuously earns notable accolades for academic excellence from U.S. News & World Report.
Further career and technical-oriented facilities include the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), recognized as one of the Midwest’s most comprehensive community-based technical colleges. MATC is comprised of a network of four campuses accessible to Wauwatosa students. Each year approximately 57,000 students enroll in some 200 degree, diploma, certificate and apprentice programs at MATC, which offers open enrollment to students in the region. The college also provides distance learning opportunities, with hundreds of online courses and the chance to complete five diploma and six certificate programs entirely online.
Bryant & Stratton College (BSC) is an accredited career college focused on teaching the skills to land employment in a high-demand field. Its network of campuses spans four states, which includes three Milwaukee-area campuses (one located right here in Wauwatosa). Bryant & Stratton offers five bachelor and 12 associate degree programs in fields such as Business Management, Accounting, Criminal Justice, IT Security and Networking, Human Resources, Financial Services and the medical field.
