West Milwaukeeans are getting used to the “new” West Milwaukee in a very positive manner. What residents once referred to as a “smoke stack” community of factories and aging industrial buildings has now shifted to having many of our commercial neighbors right at hand, from Target, Pick ‘n Save and Menards to restaurants such as Sonic, Rocky Rococo, Chili’s and McDonald’s. Also, new on Miller Park Way will be a Firestone Store and Service Center and Panda Express restaurant and drive thru, all in walking or driving distance for our residents.
Yes, we have gone through a major transition from that “smoke stack” community to a more diversified tax base, and we are enjoying the benefits of our long-range development planning.
We have a unique situation of being located almost exactly in the center of Milwaukee County. While all other communities (18) within the county are larger, we benefit from being minutes away from downtown Milwaukee, State Fair Park, Milwaukee County Zoo, Miller Park, Maier Festival grounds and regional shopping centers.
For first-time visitors to our area, we invite you to come to our Village and see what we are all about; I think you will like what you see.
Sincerely,
Ronald Hayward Village President
